Privacy Policy
Effective 26 July 2026 · Last updated 26 July 2026
Homing is a shared calendar that helps a family coordinate work schedules, personal plans, and childcare. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep the app deliberately lean: we only collect what’s needed to make shared scheduling work, and we don’t sell your data or use it for advertising.
Who we are
Homing is operated by Patrick Lee, based in Sydney, Australia. For any privacy question, contact us at patrick.george.lee.1@gmail.com.
Information we collect
- Account details — your email address, used to sign you in. We use a passwordless magic link, so we don’t store a password.
- Profile — the display name and household role you choose.
- Calendar entries — the events you create: titles, dates, times, and whether a trip means you’re away.
- Imported calendar data — if you connect Apple Calendar or Google Calendar, we read your events’ busy times to show your availability. From connected calendars we store the start and end times as busy blocks, not the full event details.
- Roster images — if you photograph a work roster, the image is processed to extract shift times (see “AI processing” below). The image is not retained after it’s read.
- Family information you enter — details you add about household members, including a child’s daycare schedule, so the app can work out childcare coverage.
- Basic technical data — standard diagnostics needed to keep the app running and secure.
How we use your information
- To show a shared calendar to the members of your household.
- To work out when household members are free or busy, and to flag when nobody is available to cover childcare.
- To read work rosters and answer your scheduling questions, when you use the AI features.
- To send notifications you’ve asked for, such as an uncovered-pickup heads-up.
- To keep the service secure, working, and free of abuse.
AI processing
Two optional features use a third-party AI provider, Anthropic:
- Roster scanning — a roster photo is sent to Anthropic to read the shift times, then discarded.
- The assistant — your question and the relevant dates and times are sent to Anthropic to generate an answer.
You consent to this when you turn AI features on, and you can turn them off at any time in Settings. With AI off, the rest of the app works normally. We do not use your data to train AI models, and we don’t sell it.
Sharing within your household
This is a shared app. Members you invite to your household can see the household calendar, availability, and childcare information. That sharing is the point of the product — invite only people you intend to share your schedule with.
Third parties who process data for us
We use a small set of trusted providers to run the service, each handling only what their function requires:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and backend functions.
- Anthropic — AI processing for roster scanning and the assistant (only when AI is on).
- Google — only if you connect Google Calendar, to read your busy times.
- Apple — app distribution and, if you allow it, on-device calendar access.
- GitHub Pages — hosting for this policy page.
We don’t sell your personal information or share it with advertisers.
Information about children
Homing is a tool for adults to coordinate family life. It is not directed at children, and children don’t create accounts. Where the app holds a child’s schedule, that information is entered and controlled by the adult members of the household. If you believe a child’s information has been added without the right authority, contact us and we’ll remove it.
Your choices and rights
- Access and export — you can view your data in the app and export your calendar as an ICS feed.
- Correction — edit or delete any event or detail you’ve added.
- Delete your account — you can delete your account and associated data from Settings, or by emailing patrick.george.lee.1@gmail.com. We’ll remove your personal data except anything we’re required to keep.
- Disconnect a calendar — revoke Apple or Google access at any time in Settings.
- Turn off AI — disable AI features in Settings whenever you like.
If you’re in Australia, you also have rights under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles; residents of other regions may have additional rights under local law.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access to your household’s data is restricted to its members through database-level rules, and calendar authorisation tokens are stored securely on the server, never in the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we’re legally required to retain certain records. Roster images are not retained after processing.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we’ll update the date above and notify you in the app. Continuing to use Homing after a change means you accept the updated policy.
